Well first off, I have to say I love cute socks. I mean, there is nothing better to me than a comfy pair of toe socks or a pair of wacky looking knee highs to show my personality. Socks can be a way for you to express yourself, Help prevent injury and the most common reason, prevent the over growth of bacteria and diseases that can cause from smelly feet to infections.
Your feet sweat more than any other part of your body. The average human foot has 250,000 sweat glands and sweats about 1 pint of perspiration a day. This makes your feet a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria. Socks are designed to not only make your feet feel comfortable and add a layer of protection but they are also designed to absorb that sweat and draw it to an area where it can evaporate. Not wearing socks allows the perspiration to seep into the leather of the shoes turning it into a breeding ground for bacteria. With the high moisture levels from all the sweat, creates a smell that in many cases can trigger an itchy fungal infection that many are familiar with, Athletes Foot. In conjunction to this, sweaty feet can also cause rashes and eczema (according to the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society)
In the colder areas, Socks are designed to decrease the risk of frostbite. These socks are made thicker than your normal everyday sock. Modern socks come in all different sizes and shapes. For example, there are no shows, ankle length, knee high, Thigh high, compression, toe, Tabi (Japanese socks where the big toe is encased in one compartment and the other toes in another) and many others. They are also made from a cotton and nylon mixture. Allowing your feet to absorb and wick the sweat from your feet properly. This is a huge improvement from the Foot wraps that were used before socks became widely available and in Eastern Europe by their army till the beginning of the 21st century.
With this information, it is plain to see the importance of wearing socks on your feet even if your feet are not in shoes. Recently I have had the opportunity to try a pair of knee high socks from the Sox Box. The socks I have worn regularly (at least 1-2 times a week) now for a few weeks and I have to be honest when I say, they are really comfortable. They are kind of tight along the top part of them but it helps keep them up when I am busting a sweat at the gym. Not to mention the awesome saying of “TOUGH TATAS” they have written on them. I like these socks because so many times I have hit myself on a piece of equipment and ended up with a huge bruise. When wearing knee high socks, it adds a layer of protection so it lessens the chance of me bruising.
There are many other socks offered at the Sox Box. From Socks that Say Epic or Fearless to some more Inspirational like Strong Mama and Run Faster. There are even some that are comical like Deadlift Diva, Zombie Killa and I Knows Squat. They even have socks for those who serve and their families.
There is honestly a sock for everyone’s personality. So, I am proud to announce that I am hosting a giveaway for one lucky winner to get a chance to win a pair of Sox Box Socks for themselves.
